Policy and objectives

 

Necessity in partnership of testing laboratories was initiated by orientation of the State economy to the European standards of quality assurance. Assessment of quality characteristics by measuring, testing, calibration and other relevant procedures carried out in testing and calibration laboratories is one of the constituents of the quality assurance infrastructure. The main objectives of the Association are as follows:

Formulation and expression the opinion of Latvian testing laboratories regarding setting up conformity assessment infrastructure and procedures in conformity with European standards and EC directives;

bullet

Promotion of restructuring of testing laboratories in accordance with Latvian and European standards;

bullet

Representation the State in European and International organisations of the profile;

bullet

Contribution to drafting legislative acts, development of national standards and technical guidelines;

bullet

Cooperation with other professional associations;

bullet

Implementation of awareness programmes, organization of workshops, exhibitions and exchange of experience among members of the Association and other organisations. 

 

Mid term targets

 

  1. To support LATLAB members to implement relevant Latvian and European standards;

  2. To present methodical assistance (workshops, training, consultancy) in technical, regulatory and quality matters, particularly on the following subjects:

Advancement of competence;

bullet

Implementation and improvement of quality management system;

bullet

Validation of testing methods;

bullet

Assessment of measurement uncertainties;

bullet

Improvement of metrology characteristics;

bullet

Organisation of inter laboratory comparison tests.

  1. To prepare laboratories for official recognition of their competence - accreditation or equivalent procedures;

  2. To introduce up to date techniques and facilities of information technology;

  3. To enhance research and development of testing methods and instrumentation;

  4. To carry out regular information exchange with EUROLAB management and secretariat.
